Dr. Eric Winer, MD
Dr. Eric P. Winer, M.D. is the Director of Yale Cancer Center and President and Physician-in-Chief of Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven Health, positions he has held since February 2022. He also serves as the Alfred Gilman Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology and Deputy Dean for Cancer Research at Yale School of Medicine. An internationally renowned medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer, Dr. Winer has led and collaborated on numerous clinical trials that have significantly advanced the field.
Prior to his current roles, Dr. Winer spent 24 years at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where he directed the Breast Oncology Program and held the Thompson Chair in Breast Cancer Research. He also served as a professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Winer has authored over 600 publications and has been instrumental in shaping breast cancer treatment protocols. His leadership extends to national organizations; he served as President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) from 2022 to 2023 and subsequently chaired the Board of Directors from 2023-2024. Dr. Winer’s commitment to patient care, research, and mentorship continues to influence the oncology community.
